During this special live, virtual edition of Roseman University’s Neighborhood Health Series, two experts will answer your questions about Coronavirus (COVID-19). Tom Hunt, MD, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Roseman University College of Medicine and Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at the Valley Health System will be joined by Dr. Christina Madison, Pharm.D., FCCP, AAHIVP, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and public health and infectious disease expert to provide insight on everything from how COVID-19 spreads, how to prevent catching it or infecting others, how antigen and antibody testing work, and more.     Dr. Thomas Hunt joined Roseman University College of Medicine in August of 2015 as Professor and Chair of Family Medicine. As a physician who has been involved in medical education almost his entire career, Dr. Hunt jumped at the opportunity to join and help shape this new Southern Nevada medical school. Dr. Hunt graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Mathematics and received his MD degree from New York Medical College. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Merrithew Memorial Hospital in Martinez, California. Dr. Hunt has practiced in Nevada for the past 18 years has been a member of the Clark County Medical Society for 10 years. After residency, Dr. Hunt returned to upstate New York where he served as a solo physician in a small rural town as a National Health Service Corps scholar. It was here that his love of medical education began. Dr. Hunt was recruited by SUNY Upstate to be an RMED preceptor, a program for motivated third-year medical students. Each student spent nine months in a rural community learning Family Medicine along with many other specialties taught by the local medical community. Tom also served as an active faculty member at the University of Nevada School of Medicine for 16 years. Dr. Hunt is a graduate of the Teaching and Learning Fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine and is currently finishing the AAMC Leadership Education and Development Certificate Program. Recognitions include the EW Richardson Excellence in Teaching award, 2013 Health Care Hero community partner award, and the 2005 Nevada Family Physician of the year. Tom and his wife Katie have been married for 26 years and have 5 children aged 15-26. Dr. Hunt enjoys spectator sports, Pilates, dining out, and watching his children grow. Dr. Hunt channels his competitive spirit every summer, relying on his skills of patience, psychology, and strategy while participating in the World Series of Poker.

    Since novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) appeared in China in December 2019, Dr. Christina Madison, an expert in public health,  has been frequently called upon by local media, non-profits, and businesses to answer questions about the disease. Dr. Madison is a past President of the Nevada Public Health Association with an intimate knowledge of the impact public policy and legislation can have on communities. A trusted and valued health care professional with over 12 years of experience in Public Health and over 15 years experience as a pharmacy professional. She has received multiple awards and recognitions for her patient counseling skills and public health/vaccine advocacy and leadership including Silver Syringe Awards in 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2015, Public Health Leader of the Year 2014 from the Nevada Public Health Association, One to One Patient Counseling Award by Pharmacy Times in 2012 and 2014, and most recently being inducted as Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy for her sustained contributions to the organization and profession of pharmacy. Dr. Madison is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice with Roseman University of Health Sciences. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in 2005, she obtained board certification in ambulatory care pharmacist (BCACP) in 2011, has been credentialed with the Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVP) since 2013, and was elected Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP) in 2018. She maintains two active clinical practices with Huntridge Family Clinic, which focuses on the LGTBQ community and is one of the largest providers of HIV prevention and gender-affirming care services in the State of Nevada as well as Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada (VMSN) where she offers immunization and communicable disease care. Dr. Madison actively participates in both state and national pharmacy and healthcare organizations to facilitate awareness of healthcare policy, education, and advocacy. She is the founder of ThePublicHealthPharmacist.com a website, which hosts healthcare provider educational content including continuing education and informational podcasts as well as professional speaking/coaching/consulting services. A resource for pharmacists and healthcare professionals who are looking to expand their knowledge of public health interventions and advanced clinical pharmacy services.
